Overview
Context & Background

The aim of this project was to create a useful application that would be of assistance, that would integrate seamlessly into an environment, helping individuals be prepared and plan social outings.

The Mum Friend App is a native Android mobile app that allows users to find places to go nearby and then plan, store & organise information for different events. This app provides users with a range of places to go derived from their selection location, categorised by type, which can be saved with comments and shared with friends. Users can use certain gestures for shortcuts, check reviews, check the weather, make notes and schedule plans also.

The Problem

Currently, the process of planning an event or outing usually requires a range of different digital (or physical) tools to be used in conjunction to each other. For example, note-taking apps for storing plans, ideas and thoughts, as well as web applications like Safari or navigation applications, to find different types of places to visit. Weather apps may also be used to view the weather of the days of an event to plan in accordance. Also, social messaging apps are used to communicate between the individuals involved.

There is an opening for an app that combines all of these features to simplify the process of planning outings. Key features of these tools could be placed in one app for users to save time.

The Solution

This mobile app places all potential user needs in one place for optimised event planning with the aim to make the experience feel "natural" despite integrating a piece of technology. This app allows users to explore local areas to find & plan things to do nearby, save routes, organise their outings and navigate to different locations in real-time. As the project's main objective is to provide "ease of use" and for intergration in day-to-day life, the interface needs to aid the world around it and not distract from it. Designs will need to support natural and instinctive use. User research, potential scenarios and prototypes are needed to picture how the system functions, and the visual identity has been fuelled by user research to appeal to young people, especially women.
